Claude Monet (Irises)

Claude Monet (Irises)

Claude Monet, born in 1840 in France, was an influential painter who played a crucial role in the development of Impressionism. His revolutionary style was based on capturing the transience of light and the atmospheric effects in nature and urban life. Monet preferred to paint outdoors and capture his immediate visual impressions on canvas. His most famous works, such as "Water Lilies" and "Impression, Rising Sun," reflect his ability to create vibrant atmospheres and textures with bold, loose brushwork. Monet also explored thematic series, such as the water lilies and the Rouen Cathedral landscapes, taking artistic experimentation to new limits. His legacy lives on as one of the great masters of modern art.

Of all his work, we have chosen "Irises" by Monet. This is one of a series of large paintings that Claude Monet did during World War I. Lacking a perceptible horizon or a clear sense of depth, the viewer is above and submerged in this body of water, in which various plant and flower forms float.

This work is part of our "Museum Pieces" collection.
