Pierre Andrieu (1821 - 1892), 19th century French painter.
He was born in southwestern France but trained in Paris, where he joined the studio of Eugène Delacroix in 1843. He became Delacroix's most trusted assistant and worked on murals and decorations in Paris, including restorations of works by Delacroix. .
After Delacroix's death in 1863, Andrieu opened his own studio. Later, a flood ruined his house, causing him financial difficulties. This may have led to the accusation that he passed off some of his own paintings as having been created by Delacroix.
The works that we love by this artist are "Tiger Resting" (1830, at only 9 years old!) and "Wounded Lioness" (1840, at 19 years old).
Both works are part of our "Museum Pieces" collection.
